Common questions about Free vs Pro, privacy, and updates.
Is the free edition enough?
For many single sites, yes — integrity, malware heuristics, opt-in vulnerability intel, login protection, hardening, events, and weekly reports ship free. Pro adds seats, real-time protection, cloud signatures, richer intel, and signed in-dashboard updates.
Does free phone home?
Only if you enable Allow vulnerability matching. The payload is component slugs, versions, and site URL — no content, no visitors. See readme.txt → External services.
Can I switch from free to Pro without losing data?
Yes. Install the Pro zip over free (or deactivate free first if WordPress complains). Settings, findings, and history remain. Then activate your license under Settings.
Where do I manage license keys?
Portal → Security lists keys, seats, and activated sites. Billing stays on stalza.com — the plugin never talks to Stripe.
How do Pro updates work?
Licensed sites ask GET /api/stalza-security/v1/updates. WordPress shows the update when a newer Pro build exists. Free sites update via WordPress.org.
Multisite?
Activate against the network home URL. Seat limits still apply per activated site URL.
Does it slow my site?
Scans run in background slices. Front-end visitors are not part of the scan loop. See Performance.
